Bruno Lamarão

Hello! I am Bruno Lamarão, a software engineer for more than 25 years. Throughout my career, I’ve worked across different technologies, programming languages, and cloud platforms. I love breaking down complex tech into simple, practical solutions and helping teams work more efficiently.

In 2018 I left my hometown, Rio de Janeiro - Brazil, and moved with my family to Rotterdam - The Netherlands, where I joined Coolblue as a .NET Senior Developer. Currently, I work as a Principal Cloud Engineer helping to push strategic projects forward, advocating for better collaboration between teams and teasing people to get onboard on platform engineering initiatives.

If you’re into cloud engineering, automation, or just want to chat about the best way to streamline deployments, feel free to connect! 🚀

My Journey in Tech

I’ve been in the tech world for over two decades, working with everything from classic ASP to modern cloud platforms like AWS. My career has taken me through different roles, companies, and technologies, but the common thread has always been solving complex problems and making things work better.

Coolblue - Rotterdam - The Netherlands (2018 – Present)

Right now, I’m a Principal Cloud Engineer at Coolblue, where I focus on cloud automation and making AWS infrastructure scalable and efficient. One of the biggest things I worked on was optimizing our AWS multi-account setup, cutting costs, improving security, and reducing the time it takes to provision new accounts by using AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, Step Functions, and CloudFormation StackSets.

I’ve also helped development teams onboard new infrastructure technologies like AWS CDK and TeamCity Kotlin pipelines, making it easier to deploy resources without needing to be cloud experts. When Coolblue started using OpenAI services, I helped to design a secure and scalable Azure infrastructure to support it. When our team needed a better way to manage configs, I joined the project to build a highly available SaltStack setup to replace Puppet

Before focusing fully on cloud, I spent a few years as a Senior .NET Developer at Coolblue, working on software development, performance optimization and large-scale data processing, and significantly sped up a important batch job by using multi-threading and caching. We built the team’s first Apache Airflow pipelines to handle millions of financial records. I also developed an internal authentication platform with Identity Server (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect) to simplify authentication for development teams.

Innersite – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2015 – 2018)

Before moving to the Netherlands, I worked as a Senior System Analyst at Innersite, where I built heavily customized Magento e-commerce platforms and a back-office management system from scratch with PHP - Zend Framework 2 and MySQL. I also integrated backend systems with WMS providers via SOAP and REST APIs.

Entrepreneurial Years - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2010 – 2016)

For a while, I ran my own projects under RBC Tecnologia/WPBox, helping small businesses get online with custom-built ASP.NET MVC e-commerce platforms and management systems. I also did a lot of WordPress development, delivering SEO-optimized websites. These years were great for learning how to wear multiple hats—building, designing, deploying, and maintaining applications while working closely with clients.

Petrobras – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2006 – 2013)

At Petrobras, I took on multiple roles, first as a Senior System Analyst and later as a .NET System Architect. I worked on migrating legacy VB6 and classic ASP applications to .NET, making them more maintainable and scalable. I joined the first team working with Agile methodologies in the company, and my role was to lead a small team and set architectural standards for .NET projects.

Hermes S.A. – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2001 – 2005)

This was my first real experience in the tech industry. I started as a Developer, working on an early e-commerce platform using Site Server Commerce Edition. I also built and maintained intranet applications with classic ASP and SQL Server, did database modeling, and even handled the webserver and database administration.
